HORSE OF THE YEAR
AUTUMN FUN Narrowly beating out Skyward of Flat Creek Racing for the title, Autumn Fun of King's Park Racing is Horse of the Year for the second time, after claiming the title in Y2 and an unsuccessful racing season in Y3. Autumn Fun this year brought her total wins to 23 from 42 starts, with 5 wins from 7 starts as a five year old. The chestnut mare began her career as a GII runner this year, with a win in the open Brownlow Cup to prepare for a well-sought placing in the GII Nothing Sprint. This placing was followed by another four wins in the open Golden Quarter and Totalitarian Stakes and GII Ruthless Mile and Hindridge Stakes. The year was wrapped up with a show in the Victor Street Stakes behind Spellbreaker and Brilliant Mind of Flat Creek.
Autumn Fun will return to the track as a six year old for a final season before being retired as a broodmare for coming years.
CHAMPION TWO YEAR OLD
SKYWARD Beaten only once in her five starts, Skyward of Flat Creek Racing has shown some solid talent in beating both two year olds and older horses alike. A grey filly out of Devil's Food by Sire of the Year winner Tambourine, Skyward was bred and trained at Flat Creek. She blew away the field in her first-up, a mile and four furlongs long maiden, before moving up to win second-up in a starter GIII, before absolutely blowing away the field in the featured GIII American Cup Juvenile. She was next beaten in her first start against older horses in the Gold River Classic, running fifth, before coming back strongly to win another feature, the open Trevail Memorial, and secure the title of Champion Two Year Old.
CHAMPION THREE YEAR OLD
DREAMTIME Dreamtime is a red roan filly owned and trained by King's Park Racing. A consistant racer, Dreamtime was narrowly beaten out by stablemate Spriritway for Champion Two Year Old in Y3, but has come back in remarkable form to take out an award of her own, with wins in the Fly Away Handicap, Sloth Stakes and Gold River Classic, bringing her total record to 6 wins from 13 starts. She also showed in the featured American Cup, and finished off her year with a well-set placing in the Trevail Memorial, beaten only by Champion Two Year Old, Skyward.
STABLE OF THE YEAR
FLAT CREEK RACING Taking the award for the second year running, Flat Creek Racing have continued to train and race champions for another year. Introduced to the track this year was Tambourine filly Skyward, who was unbeaten in her first three starts and beaten once in her entire season. Champion sprinter Laugh It Off had yet another successful season with several GII wins, though did not manage to secure an award this time, while stablemate Here In London joined her in GII territory. Challenger, the winner of Champion Two Year Old in Y1, managed to pull it together in time for a few noticeable wins this year, finally bringing himself within reach of GII races, and the year was finished off strongly with several feature wins and the first works of three promising-looking two year olds.
BREEDER OF THE YEAR
KING'S PARK RACING The first two year old's bred at King's Park stepped onto the track this year to prove their worth, and did just that in stunning style. Sails Abroad, a grey filly by the award-winning Tambourine and out of unraced mare Coursette, matched her half-sister Skyward win-for-win in the 2yo races at the start of the year, before putting in a massive effort to show in her first race against older horses. Volition, a Zynco colt, finished the year with a maiden win, a Open placing, and two GIII shows, yet to fully show his ability.
The end of the year saw three new faces step onto the track; Royal Call, a Tambourine colt; Constellation, the eagerly awaited Zynco colt; and Sails Abroad's half-sister Alouette, out of lesser-known stallion Fritzy.
SIRE OF THE YEAR
TAMBOURINE Sire of three new foals this year, King's Park stallion Tambourine's first foals hit the track this year in the form of champion fillies Skyward and Sails Abroad, each unbeaten in their first three starts, with Sails Abroad taking out the 2yo featured American Turf Juvenile and Skyward going one better with wins in the American Cup Juvenile (also a 2yo feature) and a win against older champions in the Open feature, the GIII Trevail Memorial.
Tambourine has two new foals off to the track next year; All That Jazz of Flat Creek Racing and Royal Call, also of King's Park, and has sired three foals this year; chestnut filly In the Distance out of In Flight of Flat Creek, and two bay colts for King's Park - Eastern Expression out of GIII runner Eastern Essence, and Spinning Top out of Zorya.
