The sun was just breaking over the horizon when Lee strode from her house, heading out into the stable yard to find Mike and Ricky already waiting. ”Mike, where are they?” She called, referring to the recent weanlings. This morning they were being examined, looking to see who looked the best for future distance runners and who looked best for sprinters. ”The grooms are getting them” Mike answered, giving Ricky a slight glare when the jockey hugged Lee. ”Relax man.” Ricky commented, rolling his eyes.
The first to be brought out was MyJollySailorBold, she was the daughter of Daemon and Hoist the colours, full sister to He’s A Pirate. The groom lead her around in a circle at a trot, while the trio watched her move. ”Long legs.” Rickey commented, his eyes never leaving the black filly. ”Indeed, both parents were distance runners too.” Mike agreed, nodding to the groom as he finished his third time around. ”We’ll train her for distance, both surfaces to see which she prefers.” Lee decided as the young filly was lead back inside. Both men nodded in agreement.
Next to be lead out was Nobody Sees, the blue roan overo colt of The Wizard, out of Pearl Hardborn. Neither parent had been raced, and this was the first crop from Merlin. ”Magneta was out of Pearl. He looks like a sprinter though.” Lee murmured, and both men nodded. ”We’ll try him on the dirt, see how he likes it.” Mike decided as the colt was lead inside.
Next came Justaheartbreaker, another foal sired by The Wizard however this one was out of Our Solemn Hour. Both Lee and Mike watched her move, frowning some. ”Life is a sprinter, but he hasn’t done well. Soul could do both sprint and distance but preferred sprint.” Ricky said, watching the filly as well. Lee noded ”We’ll train her on dirt, for sprinting.” Mike nodded ”If nothing else we can try her at distance.” Both ricky and Lee agreed.
Hey Pretty girl, the daughter of Daemon and Magneta was next to exit the barn. The big smokey grulla roan sabino tugged at her shank and crow hopped, giving her groom a hard time. This drew a smile from all three, and a chuckle from Lee. ”No question, Turf Distance.” She murmured, as both Die and Maggie were proven turf distance horses. Mike nodded ”No question indeed.” Die had been nearly unstoppable on the turf, and Maggie had been dubbed the turf queen. This filly had been born for turf.
