It was early when Lee decided to take Die out, he’d been cooped up since his retirement and she was sure he was going stir crazy. With her cup of coffee in hand, Lee headed out to the stud barn and snagged Dies shank off the wall beside his stall. Morning boy, wanna go for a ride? Die whickered and bobbed his head, causing Lee to chuckle. She found it amusing how everyone seemed to fear Die, when he was such a big baby for her.
Setting her coffee down on the table outside his stall, she slipped the halter over his head before opening the door and leading him to the cross ties. It didn’t take long before she had his coat shining - after a bath - and he was all tacked. Lee finished her cup of coffee before swinging up onto the large stallions back. Ready to go boy? Die pranced forward a few steps, before half rearing. Lee chuckled at this before nudging him into a canter, heading out of the barns yard and towards one of the old trails.
Once they were on the trail she loosened her hold on the reins and nudged him into a gallop, to which he whickered. Lee hunched down slightly, her arms moving with his stride as he weaved between trees just off the side of the trail. It was the best way for him to avoid other horses after all. As the approached a log she clicked her tongue and Die snorted, his leads changing as his stride ate up the ground.
Lee tried to urge him around the log, but Die was having none of that. He leapt over it effortlessly and continued charging through the woods, his sides heaving with each breath. Lee urged him onto the trail and began pulling the reins back, slowing him first to a canter and then to a trot and finally a walk. Her gaze shifted downwards, watching as he walked to make sure he didn’t injure himself before they continued along their way.
