Sam Foxcrand & French Empire
You think you can handle this, I'm not so sure.
You think you can handle this, I'm not so sure.
Sam Foxcrand walked down the path from her car to the barn. Not just any barn, but the barn that she would be working at. Flat Creek Racing's barn. Flat Creek was a well-known stable. They had horses such as Thatswhatyouthink, Watch The Clock, Laugh It Off, and their prized colt Challenger, who had won the Champion Two Year Old Colt award.
As she walked through the doors, she cleared her head of her thoughts of the horses and thought about the last time she had been here, for her interview. She was nervous for today, since John had made it clear that she was a beginner and had to learn a lot. He had said the only reason he had given her the job was that she was a natural with horses. He had warned that she would not ride in a race until he thought she was absolutely ready. Not a second before.
Sam headed for John's office. I was early; 4:00 AM, but she knew that John had been here for over an hour. She knocked on his office door. "Come in," John called. Sam walked into the office. Everything had a place and was neatly in it. She stood there quietly, not sure what to say.
"Good morning, Sam. Today you are going to pony Superman on Addie, our quarter horse that we use for such things. I assume that you have ponied a horse before?"
Sam was thankful that John has made the first move. "Good morning. And yes, I have ponied horses before." Well, not really, she thought. I've only ponied horses twice before and it didn't end well. Sam knew that this would be a test. Perhaps if she did well on this task, she would be able to ride one of the horses.
"Good. Keep Superman away from Rocket; they don't get along. I want Superman to be cantering for about two miles. Take him to the dirt track and keep him to the outside. And the main thing, don't let go and don't get hurt, either one of you."
"Yes, sir." Sam walked out the door and to the tack room that was next door. First she grabbed Addie's western saddle, saddle pad, and bridle. She brushed Addie, then saddled her. She didn't put the bridle on, since she still had to get Superman. Instead, she tied Addie in her stall and headed to Superman's stall. A leather halter with his name engraved on it and a lead rope were waiting on his stall door. She haltered the colt quickly and handed the colt to a waiting groom. Sam headed back to Addie's stall, bridled her, and led her outside. She got on and the groom handed Superman's lead to her.
Superman walked quietly to the track. Sam kissed to Addie and they were off. Addie was galloping and Superman followed behind, slightly slower. Since Superman was behaving, Sam looked around at all the horses working.
OOC: I need a horse that will spook Superman or want to fight with him, since I'm going to have him get away from Sam. If you want to have one of your horses escape, too, or whatever, I'm fine with that. I just had this idea for a plot and had to use it. XD
