Austin Smith & Laugh It Off
Austin groaned as he rolled out of bed to the sound of his alarm clock. It was four in the morning, slightly later than he normally got up, but it wasn't a normal morning. Austin and everyone from Flat Creek had been up late last night celebrating the results of the Year Three Awards. Flat Creek Racing had won four awards, including Zynco as Sire Of The Year, the stable as Breeder and Stable of the Year, and Laugh It Off as Horse of the Year.
But they still had to work all of the horses. Several horses were just going out for gallops, but Laugh was due for a good breeze. Austin hurried out of the house and to the barn. The lights were already on in the barn. Austin grinned to himself. John had gone to bed late and he was already wide awake, working with the horses.
"Hey, John," Austin yawned as he walked in. John turned away from his paperwork. "Hi, Austin. Ready to work Laugh?" Austin grinned. "Yep. You know I'm excited." John took off his glasses. " You'll be taking her five furlongs. Just let her roll."
"Sounds good, John." Austin then walked away to get Laugh ready. He soon had her groomed and saddled. As he prepared to lead her out, he saw that the other riders had showed up. "Hey, guys!" he called, then led his filly out of the barn. Laugh was prancing and pawing, ready to run. He got a leg up from a groom that was waiting for him. Austin clucked to Laugh and walked her towards the track. The filly pranced onto the track and Austin clucked to her, moving her into a slow canter to warm her up. She burst into a canter and tossed her head. Austin let her move down the track.
